Yet another twist in the transfer saga of Alexander Isak arises, as latest reports state Newcastle United have rejected an opening offer from Liverpool for the star striker.
The Magpies value the Sweden international at about £150m, with the Reds’ offer falling below that figure.
There has been no confirmation as to the level of Liverpool’s bid, but an earlier report from BBC Sport suggested that Liverpool initially proposed a deal worth between £120 million and £130 million.
Isak was left out of the Newcastle squad for their pre-season tour of Asia as he wants to explore a move away.
The bid from Liverpool has been lodged while Isak trains alone at his former club Real Sociedad, amid continued uncertainty around his future.
Despite the growing speculation, Newcastle have consistently expressed their unwillingness to part ways with Isak.
The striker was left out of Eddie Howe’s 30-man squad for the club’s preseason tour of Singapore and South Korea, with the official explanation citing a “minor thigh injury” as the reason for his absence.
However, reports from ESPN and Sky Sports indicated that Isak has communicated his desire to explore other opportunities during the current transfer window.
Although he has not submitted a formal transfer request, there have been discussions over a potential new contract in recent months. As of now, no agreement has been reached.
Isak, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £63 million in August 2022, also missed the club’s recent 4-0 friendly defeat to Celtic in Glasgow. Following the match, Howe explained that he opted to send the player back to Newcastle rather than include him in the squad, expressing concern that ongoing transfer speculation was impacting Isak’s focus.
Throughout the summer, Newcastle have maintained that Isak—who still has three years remaining on his current deal at St James’ Park—is not available for transfer
